Profile

Lambung Mangkurat University is located on the capital city of South Kalimantan, Banjarmasin. South Kalimantan is a Province at the southern part of Borneo Island. An island rich in biodiversity and natural resources.

The university has put a considerable effort in research and social responsibilities on wetland management while assisting the regional’s development, the growth of the local industries, the effort to protect the natural resources, and dealing with the environmental issues. These efforts are put forth through the 3 pillars of higher education, they are: instructional activities, research and community services.

The University was first established on 21 September 1958, comprised of 4 Faculties: Faculty of Law, Faculty of Economics, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, and Faculty of Islamology.

The University became a StateUniversity on 1 November 1960 by the Government Regulations No. 41/1960.

Lambung Mangkurat was named after a vice regent in the Principality of Negara Dipa in the Banjarese Kingdom around the 1400. It is under Lambung Mangkurat’s reign that the Kingdom’s territory stretched from Tanjung Silat to Tanjung Puting.

The university logo consists of the Enggang bird, a gong, a centipede, a ray, a circle, a red-white-yellow color, and a motto. The Enggang bird a native bird which is also known as The Hornbill. In Banjarese culture, it symbolizes power, owning a distant view and foresight. The gong and the yellow color represent public appeal and grandeur. The centipede represents the Banjarese Monarch symbols. The ray symbolizes enlightening. The circle symbolizes happiness. And the motto is ‘waja sampai ka putting’ which is the spirit to fight until the end.

Since 2008, we have been facilitating international students, especially from Sangji University, for regular class enrolment as well as for conducting their research on tropical forest.
